Inner Mongolia Strengthens Protection of Women's Rights, Interests

 September 15, 2023

During the past few years, the Party (Communist Party of China) Committee and the Government of North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region have attached great importance to improving work related to helping residents resolve marital and family disputes. The committee and the government have also put much effort into helping the Women's Federation of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region improve the mechanism for protecting the rights and interests of women in the region.

In 2021, the region promulgated the guidance on both strengthening the construction of the center of the comprehensive management of social security and improving the network management system to manage communities in Inner Mongolia. To promote the building of harmonious communities, many of the communities have been divided into dozens of grids, each of which is administered by a community worker, who helps residents solve difficulties in their lives. In accordance with the guidance, work related to combating domestic violence and/or sexual assault, and to helping residents resolve family disputes, has been included in the work duty of the grid-based community workers (in Inner Mongolia).

In 2014, the federation and the Department of Justice of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region released the opinions on establishing the people's mediation committees (across Inner Mongolia), to mediate residents' marital and family disputes. So far, all (103) of the region's banners and counties have established such committees. This year, the federation and the department issued a notice on improving work related to establishing the family mediation studios, at the grass-roots level, in Inner Mongolia. The notice stipulates, by 2025, all of the townships and most villages in the region will set up the family mediation studios.
